Louisville
1986–2008·Louisville, KY
Louisville's post-hardcore scene punched absurdly above the city's weight. Four teenagers make Spiderland and accidentally invent post-rock, then break up, and the resulting shrapnel turns into Rodan, June of 44, Shipping News, Rachel's, and a dozen other bands that matter. Everybody plays in everybody else's group. Mueller is in three bands at once. Noble is in everything. O'Neil goes from playing on the heaviest record in town to making the most delicate solo stuff imaginable. Quarterstick puts it all out. The practice spaces are shared, the studios are shared, the van rides are shared. Louisville proves you don't need a big city. You just need the right people in the right rooms.
