June of 44

1994–2000·Louisville, KY

Mueller crawled out of the Rodan wreckage and built this. Nautical themes, trumpet, guitars that sound like they're trying to map ocean currents on a chalkboard. Four records on Quarterstick and each one goes further out to sea than the last. Post-hardcore for people who read Moby Dick and thought 'yeah but what if it was louder.'

People

Jeff Mueller
guitarvocals

Rodan, June of 44, Shipping News. The busiest guitarist in Louisville and every band he touches turns to gold. Angular, dynamic, never plays the same way twice. If you drew a map of the Louisville scene his name would be on half the roads.

Sean Meadows
guitar

June of 44's guitarist, weaving intricate lines through the band's nautical post-hardcore sound. Part of what made that band feel like a ship navigating through a storm -- precise, atmospheric, and constantly in motion.

Fred Erskine
basstrumpet

Bass AND trumpet in June of 44, which tells you everything about that band's ambition. Also did time in Hoover and Crownhate Ruin on the DC side of things. A connector between the Louisville and DC post-hardcore worlds.

Doug Scharin
drums

June of 44's drummer who also played in Codeine, Rex, and HiM. The guy's resume reads like a syllabus on 90s underground music. Restrained when he needs to be, explosive when it counts. A drummer's drummer.
