TAD
Foundational Sub Pop. Tad Doyle fronting a four-piece that played slower and heavier than almost everyone else on the label — God's Balls in '89 is a sludge/noise rock landmark that got buried by Nirvana taking all the oxygen two years later. 8-Way Santa is the canonical record (the original cover got the band sued — look it up). Inhaler and Infrared Riding Hood on majors never quite crossed over. Doyle's Brothers of the Sonic Cloth carries the torch these days.
People
TAD's frontman and eponym. A large man with a louder voice, a genuinely terrifying stage presence, and a recording studio (Witch Ape) that's produced heavy records for decades. Brothers of the Sonic Cloth post-TAD. One of the foundational Sub Pop figures even if he got overshadowed by the band next door.
