Melvins
Buzz Osborne and Dale Crover started Melvins in Aberdeen in 1983 and they have not stopped once. Slowed hardcore down until it cracked open into something new — sludge, doom, noise rock, drone, all of it — and then kept mutating for forty years. Bullhead and Houdini are the obvious ones but every era has at least one essential record. The only constant is Buzz's hair and the fact that every Melvins record sounds exactly like Melvins and nothing else.
People
Melvins' frontman and the guy with the grey exploding-hair who basically invented sludge. Knew Kurt Cobain in Aberdeen, loaned him Black Flag records, watched him die famous. Has released something close to thirty Melvins records over four decades without ever softening the approach once.
Melvins' drummer since 1984 and one of the most punishing-sounding drummers in any genre. Played drums on Nirvana's earliest demos too. Crover is the reason half of Melvins' songs feel like they're being slowly crushed under concrete — he hits the kit like he's trying to break it in two.
