Rapeman

1987–1989·Chicago, IL

Albini's between-bands band. Sims on bass (pre-Jesus Lizard), Washam on drums (post-Scratch Acid). Heavier than Big Black, meaner, more rhythmically vicious. One album, one EP, gone. The kind of band that exists just long enough to ruin your speakers and then vanishes.

People

Steve Albini
guitarvocalsproducerengineer

The man. Guitarist, engineer, professional thorn in the industry's side. Big Black, Rapeman, Shellac. Recorded Surfer Rosa, In Utero, and about a thousand underground records at Electrical Audio. Never took royalties because he thinks that's stealing. Loves poker and hates your favorite band's production. The most principled human in rock music.

David Wm. Sims
bassguitar

Three of the heaviest bands in noise rock and Sims was the bass player in ALL of them. Scratch Acid, Rapeman, Jesus Lizard. His tone sounds like a bulldozer with a distortion pedal. Grinding, relentless, absolutely crucial.

Rey Washam
drums

Scratch Acid. Rapeman. Hits harder than anybody. That's the bio. What else do you need?
