Flipper

1979–present·San Francisco, CA

Four guys who looked at hardcore in 1979 and said 'what if we played it twice as slow and half as competently.' The result was the single most influential unbeautiful sound in American underground rock. Generic Flipper is the record. Will Shatter's death in '87 ended the original run; they've reconvened in various lineups since. Nirvana wore their shirts, Melvins covered them, every slow-heavy band ever recorded owes them money. The sound of giving up and making it sound amazing.

Bruce Loose
vocalsbass

Flipper's bassist and co-vocalist. Traded lead duties with Will Shatter in the classic lineup. Kept Flipper going through multiple lineup catastrophes — Shatter's death in '87, Ted Falconi moving around — and is still the keeper of the flame.
