One band. One drummer. One completely insane approach to rhythm. Pittsburgh's underground contribution is basically Don Caballero and Don Caballero is basically Damon Che hitting things in time signatures that shouldn't exist. Smaller scene than Chicago or Louisville but just as intense. House shows, DIY venues, a community that values being technically ridiculous. American Don on Touch and Go is the record that math-rock kids the world over learned from. Williams split to start Battles and suddenly Pittsburgh's DNA is everywhere. Maybe being isolated from the bigger scenes was the whole point. No dilution. Pure concentrate.
