Houston's weirdo rock lineage is small and intense. Rusted Shut, Charalambides, Indian Jewelry — a scene that traded AC comfort for abrasive experiments all through the 90s and 2000s. Not a big scene like Austin's, but a committed one. Dull Knife Records, Load (reaching down from Providence), and Emperor Jones picked up a lot of Houston weirdness for wider distribution. If it sounded like it was recorded inside a garbage disposal, there's a decent chance it came out of Houston.
