Boston's noise rock is quieter than most — Come, Galaxie 500, Morphine, Karate — more attuned to atmosphere and slow burn than outright aggression. Thalia Zedek's trajectory (Live Skull in NYC, Come in Boston) carries the noise lineage into something moodier and more bruised. Matador distributed most of it. Harvard and the basement circuit at the Middle East kept the scene going through the 90s.
