Seven Year Bitch

1990–1997·Seattle, WA

Seattle four-piece. Selene Vigil's vocals, Elizabeth Davis on bass, Stefanie Sargent on guitar (she died of an overdose in 1992 — Sick 'Em is partly a record about her), Valerie Agnew on drums. Roisin Dunne joined after Sargent's death. ¡Viva Zapata! in '94 on C/Z is the essential record — named for Mia Zapata of The Gits, who was murdered in Seattle in 1993. A band that survived a decade of accumulated grief and made records that refuse to let it fade.

Selene Vigil
vocals

Seven Year Bitch's vocalist. Delivered some of the most specific, furious lyrics of the early 90s Seattle scene — about the death of bandmate Stefanie Sargent, about the murder of her friend Mia Zapata of The Gits, about survival as a mode of resistance. A foundational riot-grrrl-adjacent voice even though Seven Year Bitch never quite fit the label.
