Nomeansno

1979–2016·Victoria, BC

Rob and John Wright — brothers from Victoria — plus a rotating guitarist (Andy Kerr for a long stretch, then Tom Holliston). The most technically ridiculous band in post-hardcore, welding jazz-level rhythmic complexity to punk fury without ever sounding like a prog band. Wrong, Sex Mad, Small Parts Isolated and Destroyed, 0 + 2 = 1 — all essential. Finally quit in 2016 after a thirty-seven-year run.

People

Rob Wright
bassvocals

Nomeansno's bassist and one of the great bass players in any rock genre. Plays what sounds like lead guitar parts on a four-string and sings lyrics about philosophy, politics, and sex while doing it. Brother to drummer John Wright.

John Wright
drums

Nomeansno's drummer. Impossibly fast and unfairly precise — half the band's whole thing is the Wright brothers working as an impossibly tight rhythm section for twenty-five years straight.
